Wedding Storybook: Your wedding day is one of the most special and memorable days of your life. Capturing the moments of that day through photography is crucial to relive those cherished memories. However, the way in which you present those photographs can significantly impact how you and others experience them. This is where wedding storybooks come in – they have revolutionised the way in which you can access and share your wedding day in a social and personally engaging way.

While digital copies of photographs may be more convenient, there are some significant benefits to having a printed wedding storybook. One of the most apparent benefits is the physical presence of a book that you can hold, flip through, and feel. Unlike digital copies that can be lost in a sea of files, wedding storybooks stand out as a tangible objects that can evoke a sense of nostalgia and wonder every time you revisit them.

Moreover, wedding storybooks allow you to curate your wedding day’s story and flow, making it a more personalized experience. With a printed album, you can arrange your photos in an order that makes sense to you, and you can add meaningful captions to accompany each picture. This creates a narrative that brings back the emotions and memories of your wedding day, making it easier to relive those moments.

Another critical aspect of printed wedding storybooks is their longevity. Digital photos can quickly become outdated as technology advances, making them inaccessible as time goes on. A printed album, on the other hand, is a timeless keepsake that can be passed down from generation to generation, becoming an essential family heirloom that tells your family’s story.

While digital copies of photographs are more convenient, they lack the physical and emotional impact of a printed wedding storybook. Having a printed album allows you to create a personalised narrative that can be passed down for generations to come. Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and investing in a high-quality wedding storybook is an investment in reliving those memories for years to come.

Fusion Wedding Photography features in Picture of the Day.   A regular feature on the Asian Wedding Journal, a daily image, reflecting why i enjoy weddings so much. My remit for Asian Wedding photography  its not just to focus on the Bride and Groom. I look for what the bride and groom are don’t get to see on their  big day. In essence I become their eyes, their witness the re-teller of their wedding day story.

Once I have captured what I feel tells enough of the story of the main event. I wander off looking for quirky moments that will add  depth to  their wedding memories.   Things that will make them smile, laugh and sometimes cry, but always to ensure they appreciate their wedding.

This image is an iconic fun shot. The Groom and groomsmen were waiting out side the the Criterion restaurant and looking bored.  SO i lined them up and said jump.  and they did. Took three or three attempt’s but we got there. I just love the bemused look in the bystanders face.

This was taken in the morning of a Tamil / English wedding.  This is what makes  Fusion Wedding Photography fun. The different cultures coming together and sharing huge moments.

Leena and Hamir’s Asian wedding journey with me started around 6 months before the wedding with an engagement shoot in the heart of London. Fast forward one Engagement shoot, three planning sessions later we are at The Hilton Syon Park.

An early start, and lots of moments to capture, the morning atmosphere was relaxed. Full of joy and anticipation of the day ahead, just as Leena & Hamir had discussed.  The Hindu ceremony was lively and full of charm. The Priest while reading in Sanskrit also translated the ceremony in English, so everyone could understand.

The Hilton Syon Park, is nestled in the grounds of Syon House just slight west of Chiswick.  Syon House lends it self well as a eye catching backdrop for for some emotive portraits. Both on site and off site, and if you time it properly you may be able to get on the sandy beach. The evening reception was electric and contrasted the traditional ceremony of the morning, with a Disney style theme, and the Engagement shoot was shown as a slide show just before they made their entrance into the reception.

The Guru Nanak Gurdwara Hosts Beautiful Sikh Wedding in Bedford.   One of the countries hidden gems, this Gudwara is just awe inspiring. The ornate hand crafted stone and marble building hosts many a Sikh Wedding.

The  wedding started very early, well for the groom it did, leaving Manchester around 5pm to get to Bedford for 10am. Sukhi. No rest for the bride either she was up and busy at 5am too!  The Milni ( Gathering and meeting of the families) happened out side on a sunny morning.  The purpose of the Milni is for blessing for the day and also to formally introduce the two families to each other. It starts with the parents, then siblings, cousins and then uncles.  But we have seen Milinis that had a list of 30 from each side, luckily not this one.

The ceremony, was elegant and a little emotional at times, but was quite fluid and fast. The Anand kāraj, was followed by a Civil Ceremony. The on to the reception, a short drive away nestled in the Bedfordshire country side.  The reception was what you expected, the bride and groom had a dress change, then joined the guests for drinks, a bit of cake and an the opening of dance floor. Hope you enjoy this little story of the Sikh Wedding in Bedford.

We all love a list and we’re working on a few more. But let’s start this going with Top 5 Asian wedding photography tips:

Shot List

Have a shot list: As wedding photographers, yes we are amazing, and we do our best to produce awesome wedding photos, but we are not mindreaders. We cannot second guess your exact requirements. Once my clients have booked and confirmed their wedding date. We start to discuss the wedding plans in more details and have a very long conversation about shot lists. I know what I need to capture, to tell the story. However, I still have a conversation about shots with the couple, just to make sure we are on the same page and ask for their specific requirements. That’s when things like these get mentioned. ” my uncle from Canada is coming to the wedding, I need a picture of him” and “can you take a picture of the menu cards, my nieces made those”

Rehearse

Rehearse the key moments of the day. This is common practice at church weddings, where the vicar, walks the couple and family through a practice ceremony so they know what to expect on the day, where people should stand etc. In an ideal world, everyone who is planning an Asian wedding would do this. The rehearsal is important for the key moments so that they are the ones that stay in the wedding book, walking down the aisle, flower girls throwing petals, The wedding ceremony, etc. These if not rehearsed can look messy.

Timings

Keep the family portraits session short, simple so you can focus on having a good time, and making memories, and not just sit on a stage for 4 hours. One of the key focuses of my time on the wedding day is looking for those little stories that make up your wedding. Yes, the “formals” are important too but do you really need 40 group shots. My recommendation to my clients is to-do the key immediate family shots, then do a BIG group shout with all the guests.

Enjoy the day

Have fun. The wedding is a celebration for you to enjoy yourself, so hand over the management of the wedding to someone you can trust on the day. Ideally, a wedding planner who will keep things running smoothly, that was this frees you up to enjoy the day, and to enjoy your hard work in putting the wedding together.

A lovely late summer wedding. The summer sun was out. The heat was on. The Walled gardens wildflowers set the scene for a lovely layed back wedding.  A cross between a boho chic wedding and beach wedding was the feel couple were aiming for. The  short ceremony followed by a light drinks reception with plenty of Pimms and sandals to go around.

The formal group shots were a breeze, but the busy bees were a little to keen on the Pimms.  The newly wedds wanted a few wedding portriats, just enough to provide a highlight to the wedding story book.  But they really wanted to get back to the guests and have a good old time, and wanted me to capture the essence of the wedding.

The bright sunny day brings a positive start to the day. But provides us, photographers with challenge, a technical one. While we look forward to sunny days, we do hope for a little cloud cover.  Why? you will wonder, well the bright light of summers sun is often to harsh, we look for warmer softer tones to make you look your best.

The Barrat arrives with 200 guests dancing to the beat of the Dohl drums. Enjoyed and light breakfast then in to the gardens for a open air ceremony.  Hindu Weddings are long and need to be as the Ceremony has many facets to it, each with its on tradition and meaning.  After the gifts had been exchanged and the Sindoor and Manjal Sutra had been placed, they were married.  After the meet and greet, and  while the guests enjoy their starters we whisk the couple away for some portraits.

Top 5 Tips for a Memorable Asian Wedding

An Asian wedding is a joyous occasion filled with vibrant colours, rich traditions, and happy memories. However, planning an Asian wedding can be a complex and challenging task, which is why it’s essential to prepare and plan ahead to make the day memorable. Whether you’re the bride and groom or a family member or friend involved in wedding planning, here are the top five tips for creating a memorable Asian wedding.

Choose the Right Venue;

Choosing the right venue for an Asian wedding is crucial to creating a memorable experience. The venue should accommodate the size of the wedding party and guests, and also have the facilities to host traditional ceremonies, such as a Mandap or a stage for the couple’s entrance. Consider a venue that reflects the couple’s personalities and offers a beautiful backdrop for wedding photographs.

Choose the venue wisely. The venue will always set the feel and tone for the wedding. The location, the décor, the ambiance, and also the staff.   When looking for the ideal venue consider the possibilities to make your event extra special.

Theme it:
Choose a unique theme that is personal to you and your partner. Make it as chic, glamorous, or as simple as you want.  The best and most memorable themes are not just based on colors but concepts, an ideas.  Some of the ones I have seen in the last month include wild orchards, Disney, and the classic regal weddings. But don’t stop there, get your guests to join in the theme by dressing the part!

Think about incorporating traditions and customs
Asian weddings are steeped in traditions and customs that have been passed down for generations. Incorporating these customs into the wedding ceremony and reception is a meaningful way to honor the couple’s culture and heritage, which will add will create a unique and memorable experience for the couple and their guests.

Book a Professional Wedding Photographer
A professional wedding photographer will capture the magical moments of the wedding day and create memories that will last a lifetime. Look for a photographer who has experience in Asian weddings and understands the traditions and customs. Discuss the wedding photography requirements with the photographer beforehand, and make sure to review their portfolio to ensure they can deliver the desired results.

Asian Wedding Feast
Instead of the usual soft drink or fizzy pop, try offering your guests a cheeky mocktail. Get a professional mixologist to roll out non-alcoholic versions of Tequila Sunsets, Mojito, Mosco Mule, or even Bellini.  The food at an Asian wedding is an important aspect of the day.  From traditional delicacies to modern cuisine, the food and beverages should be high-quality, flavorful, and cater to the tastes of the guests. Offering a variety of options for vegetarians and non-vegetarians is also important.  Consider hiring a caterer with experience in Asian weddings and ask for tastings beforehand.

Keep your wedding plans Simple:
The key to the best wedding experience is keeping it simple, and making sure that your guests get to enjoy your company.  After all, they are there to celebrate your big day.  Keep extra circular activities to a minimum yes you need to keep them occupied, but make sure they get to share that with you.

Asian Wedding Entertainment
From music and dancing to live performances and games, entertainment should be planned to keep the guests engaged and entertained throughout the wedding day. The entertainment should reflect the couple’s tastes and preferences and include traditional and modern elements.

What You Waiting for – Go Plan

Planning an Asian wedding is complex, but crucial for a memorable occasion. Choose a venue that accommodates wedding size, customs, and personality. Incorporate traditions into the wedding, and hire an experienced photographer. Offer flavorful high-quality food and drinks that cater to everyone. Keep the wedding plans simple to enjoy each other’s company. Keep guests entertained with music, dancing, games, and other elements. Follow these steps for a celebration of love, tradition, and culture.
